Discover the best pickleball courts and where to play pickleball in Orange County. From free pickleball courts, drop-in play and leagues and tournaments, we’ve got you covered. This guide is intended for people just looking to get started, pickleball enthusiasts travelling out of town or pickleball veterans just looking for more places to play.

For those of you who haven’t heard of pickleball, it’s a mash-up of tennis, table tennis, and badminton. The game can be played with two or four players on a modified tennis court using ping-pong style paddles and a whiffle ball.

Ready to get out and try it yourself? Here’s a list of pickleball courts in Orange County.

Aliso Viejo

ClubSport: 50 Enterprise, Aliso Viejo, CA 92656 – Members can enjoy playing on indoor pickleball courts that includes free “learn to play” sessions and drop-in play.

Anaheim

Anaheim Pickleball Club at Anaheim Tennis Center: 975 S. State College Blvd., Anaheim, CA – The Club has 10 permanent lighted pickleball courts and an additional 10 temporary courts for tournaments and events. Pickleball clinics and private lessons are available.

There are monthly memberships with unlimited drop-in play, free court reservations and free clinics. Drop-ins times vary by skill set from beginner to advance and the friendly instructors do a great job of pairing people with similar skill sets. Wait times are minimal to non-existent on most days.

The courts are also open to the public where anyone can join a drop-in time or reserve a court for a fee. Travelers from across the country are known to drop-in and play at these welcoming courts.

East Anaheim Gymnasium: 8165 E Santa Ana Canyon Road
Anaheim, CA 92808 – The indoor courts are converted to pickleball for programs.

Twila Reid Park: 3100 W Orange Ave, Anaheim, CA – Three free public courts with lights.

Brea

Arovista Park (500 W Imperial Hwy, Brea, CA 92821): By Fall 2024 four new pickleball courts will be installed.

Buena Vida at La Floresta: 55+ private community with a clubhouse and pickleball courts.

Buena Park

Buena Park Community Gymnasium (6931 Orangethorpe Ave, Buena Park, CA): Drop-in pickleball is available on the wood basketball courts at set times.

Costa Mesa

Costa Mesa Downtown Recreation Center: 1860 Anaheim Ave., Costa Mesa, CA – Three indoor courts that are free for the public to use.

OC Pickleball Club (3124 College Ave, Costa Mesa, CA 92626): These pickleball courts are located inside Halecrest Park Swim and Tennis Club.

Tanager Park (1780 Hummingbird Dr, Costa Mesa, CA 92626): Tanager park has two permanent, dedicated outdoor pickleball courts.

Cypress

Courts are open to the public for drop-in pickleball play on a first-come, first-served basis. See Cypress’s pickleball page for more information.

Arnold Cypress Park: 8611 Watson Ave., Cypress, CA – Free lighted public courts for open play.

Lexington Park: 4600 W Cerritos Ave, Cypress, CA – Lighted multi-use court with pickleball.

Veterans Park: 4554 Avenida Granada, Cypress, CA – Free lighted public courts for open play from 8 am to 8 pm.

Dana Point

Del Obispo Park (34052 Del Obispo St, Dana Point, CA, 92629) – There are 2 outdoor concrete courts.

Marea Apartment Homes: 32400, 32478 Crown Valley Pkwy, Dana Point, CA 92629 – There are two pickleball courts available to to residents of the community.

Fountain Valley

Fountain Valley Recreation Center Gym: 16400 Brookhurst St., Fountain Valley CA – Eight public courts for open play. Court fees may apply. See Fountain Valley’s pickleball page for more information.

Fountain Valley Tennis & Pickleball Center: 16400 Brookhurst St., Fountain Valley CA – Pickleball is offered seven days a week; Reservations and walk-in. See Fountain Valley’s pickleball page for more information.

Los Cab Racquet & Sports Club: 17272 Newhope St., Fountain Valley, CA. – There are four pickleball courts available to club members.

Garden Grove

Chapman Sports Complex (Chapman Ave & Knott St, Garden Grove, CA 92841): There are three outdoor pickleball courts with lines and nets. Drop-in and lessons from private to beginner and advanced are available.

Garden Grove Sports & Recreation Center: 13641 Deodara Drive, Garden Grove, CA 92844 – Drop-in pickleball is available on some nights. Features 6 indoor pickleball courts.

The Map Sports Facility: 12552 Western Ave, Garden Grove, CA 92841 – Mixed use gym that allows up to six courts to be rented for pickleball.

Huntington Beach

Edison High School: They offer eight dual-use pickleball and tennis courts.

Huntington Beach Pickleball at Golden West College: There 24 brand new pickleball courts with lights at Golden West College serving the community. Courts open Monday to Sunday from 8am-12:30pm and 6pm-10pm. Open courts, lessons and leagues are available.

Huntington Landmark: A private senior living community with pickleball courts.

Worthy Park: 1831 17th Street, Huntington Beach, CA – Free, first come, first serve four permanent courts that are open to the public. Lighted daily until 10 pm.

Additionally, check out the Surf City Pickleball Society which hosts the annual Surf City Pickleball Tournament.

Irvine

The City of Irvine has 98 tennis courts, six lit pickleball courts, and nine hybrid tennis and pickleball courts. Irvine also contract instructors to teach junior, adult and private pickleball lessons at Portola Springs Community Park. There is recreational coed league for adults is played at Portola Springs Community Park. Beginner (Level 1) through Advanced (Level 3) skill level divisions will be offered. Knollcrest Park: 2069 Knollcrest, Irvine, CA – Two lighted courts for public use.

Los Olivos Community Park: 101 Alfonso, Irvine, CA 92618 – 4 lighted courts.

Mike Ward Community Park: 20 Lake Rd, Irvine – The City of Irvine is planning to construct a dedicated public pickleball facility with 8 pickleball courts at Mike Ward Community Park in Woodbridge. Expected to be completed by Fall 2024.

Portola Springs Community Park: 900 Tomato Springs, Irvine, CA – Six lighted public courts.

San Carlo Park: 15 San Carlo, Irvine, CA – Two lighted public courts.

Turtle Rock Community Park: 1 Sunnyhill, Irvine – 1 hybrid tennis and pickleball court.

University Community Park: 1 Beech Tree Ln, Irvine, CA 92612 – 4 lighted courts

Courtside Superstores: 79 Technology Dr W, Irvine – There are 5 indoor hard courts.

Merage Jewish Community Center: There are 6 hard courts with 2 that are outdoors and 4 that are indoors.

North Lake Tennis Club: The pickleball courts at North Lake Tennis Club are open for member and guest play.

Racquet Club of Irvine: 5 Ethel Coplen Way, Irvine, CA 92612 – There are five permanent lighted pickleball courts available to members.

South Lake Tennis Club Tennis & Pickleball Club: 31 Creek Rd, Irvine, CA 92604 – Available to residents only.

La Habra

iPickle La Habra: 351 S Euclid St., La Habra, CA – A fee is required and memberships are available to play on 11 outdoor courts here. There are leagues, group lessons and drop-in play. Anyone can show up at a drop-in time and play for fee.

La Palma

Central Park (7821 Walker St, La Palma, CA 90623): The City plans two install 2 to 4 pickleball courts at this park.

Ladera Ranch

Ladera Ranch: 1 Daisy Street, Ladera Ranch, CA 92694 – Ladera Ranch has two outdoor lighted pickleball courts available to residents at Avendale.

Laguna Beach

Alta Laguna Park: 3299 Alta Laguna Blvd., Laguna Beach – 1 dual-line tennis and pickleball court and three permanent free public courts available for open play.

Laguna Beach Community & Recreation Center (30516 S Coast Hwy, Laguna Beach, CA 92651): 2 indoor pickleball courts with painted lines and portable nets are available for indoor drop-in pickleball.

Lang Park (21540 Wesley Drive, Laguna Beach, CA 92651): There is one dual-line tennis and pickleball court.

Laguna Hills

Laguna Hills Community Center and Sports Complex: 25401 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA – Four free lighted public courts.

Nellie Gail Ranch Tennis Club: 25281 Empty Saddle Drive, Laguna Hills, CA – Private club with membership fees, with 8 outdoor lighted courts.

Laguna Niguel

Community Roots Academy: 29292 Crown Valley Pkwy, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677- Contact the academy about playing there.

Crown Valley Elementary School Pickleball Courts – 29292 Crown Valley Parkway, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677 – 8 Pickleball courts, no lights, first come, first served basis. Drop-in play only.

Laguna Niguel Regional Park: 23952 Aliso Creek Road, Laguna Niguel, CA – Eight free public courts for open play. There is a fee to enter the park.

Marina Hills Park: There are two permanent pickleball courts plus a dual use pickleball and tennis court available to community members and guests only.

Laguna Woods

Laguna Woods Village Pickleball Club: 24122 Moulton Pkwy, Laguna Woods, CA 92637 – 7 outdoor courts and 3 indoor courts. The pickleball courts may be used by Laguna Woods residents and their guests only.

Lake Forest

Lake Forest Beach & Tennis Club: 22921 Ridge Route Drive, Lake Forest, CA – Private community with four outdoor courts for members to use.

Lake Forest Sun & Sail Club: – There 8 courts available for play. Competition is available at different levels, advanced, intermediate and beginners. The is a private club for residents with guest passes available for purchase.

Portola Park: 1004 Portola Oaks Drive, Lake Forest, CA – Three free public courts.

Serrano Summit: This future planned community will have a club that features pickleball courts, a pool with sloped beach entry, a fitness end with laps, and a heated spa.

Los Alamitos

Laurel Park (10862 Bloomfield St, Los Alamitos, CA 90720): There are 4 outdoor hard courts with taped lines and portable nets.

Mission Viejo

The City of Mission Viejo offers drop in play, reservations, leagues, camps, lessons and pickleball machine rentals. See Mission Viejo’s pickleball page for more information.

Esencia Sports Park: 31 Esencia Drive, Rancho Mission Viejo, CA – Free lighted courts for public use.

Felipe Tennis & Recreation Center: 27161 Nogal, Mission Viejo, CA – A fee is required to play on the four outdoor lighted courts here.

Sendero Field Park: 29201 Ortega Hwy, Mission Viejo, CA – Four free public courts available for open play.

Sierra Recreation Center: 26887 Recodo Lane, Mission Viejo – There are 6 outdoor concrete courts with permanent lines and portable nets available.

Newport Beach

Bonita Canyon Sports Park: 1990 Ford Road, Newport Beach – Four free public courts, no lights with organized drop-in play Monday through Saturday mornings til noon.

Newport Coast Community Center (6401 San Joaquin Hills Rd): There are 3 indoor wood courts available for drop-in play.

The Tennis Club at Newport Beach: 11 Clubhouse Drive, Newport Beach, CA – Paid membership is required to play on the 35 permanent, lit pickleball courts, including a grandstand court.

Orange

El Camino Real Park: 400 N Main Street, Orange, CA 92868 – Two of the six tennis courts at El Camino Real Park now have pickleball court lines overlayed within the existing tennis court lines, allowing for both courts to be used for pickleball or tennis play. The courts are lit, so they can be used for play during all park hours. Use of the courts is on a first-come, first-serve basis and limited to 1 hr while others are waiting.

Grijalva Park Gym: 368 N Prospect St., Orange, CA – Three temporary indoor courts. Open indoor pickleball play is every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:30 am – 11:30 am. A fee may apply.

Placentia

Tuffree Hill Park (2101 Tuffree Blvd, Placentia, CA, 92870): There are four hard courts with permanent lines and nets.

Rancho Santa Margarita

Altisima Pickleball Courts (30082 Melinda Road Rancho Santa Margarita, CA 92688): Members and guess of the SAMLARC Community can play on four lighted outdoor courts.

San Clemente

San Gorgonio Park: 2916 Via San Gorgonio, San Clemente, CA – 4 Permanent Courts, and 4 Dual Lined Courts – Unlighted.

San Luis Rey Park: 2709 Calle Del Comercio, San Clemente, CA – Four free lighted public courts.

San Clemente High School (700 Avenida Pico, San Clemente, CA 92673): There are seven lighted outdoor courts that are free for public use but you’ll need to bring you’re own nets. The courts cannot be reserved.

Steed Memorial Park (247 Avenida La Pata, San Clemente, CA 92673): There are 8 courts available for drop-in.

Boys and Girls Club of the South Coast Area (1304 Calle Valle, San Clemente, CA, 92672): There are three indoor hard courts with painted lines and a portable net.

Lifetime Fitness: 111 Avenida Vista Montana, San Clemente, CA 92672 – Members can enjoy open play, and a variety of beginner to experienced classes and clinics.

San Clemente Inn (2600 Avenida Del Presiden, San Clemente, CA, 92672): There is one permanent outdoor court and another court with painted lines and a portable net on a multi-use court. Available for hotel guests.

Talega Swim & Athletic Club (100 Calle Altea, San Clemente, CA 92673): There are 2 outdoor hard courts with portable nets on a tennis court. An additional permanent outdoor court is located at Tierra Grande. Available to residents and guests only.

San Juan Capistrano

Camino Capistrano at Stone Field Park (31422 Camino Capistrano, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675): The easterly tennis court has been converted into four pickleball courts.

Cook Park La Novia Field: 28398 Calle Arroy, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675 – The underutilized multi-use court at Cook Park as well as one of the two tennis courts has been converted to permanent pickleball courts.

Santa Ana

Santa Ana High School: 520 W. Walnut Street, Santa Ana, CA 92703 – There five dedicated pickleball court at Santa Ana High School Tennis Center. First Serve Santa Ana organizes pickleball for all ages on this court.

McFadden Institute of Technology (M.I.T.): 2701 South Raitt Street, Santa Ana, CA 92704 –
There are 4 outdoor concrete courts with permanent lines.

Seal Beach

AIM Pickleball: 1718 Apollo Ct, Seal Beach, CA 90740 – Aim has 12 indoor courts with monthly and annual membership options. They have open play, classes, lessons, academies, bootcamps, leagues and tournaments.

Marina Park: 151 Marina Dr, Seal Beach, CA 90740 – There are four permanent lighted courts with windscreens around the fences. Courts are available for free open play on a first-come, first-served basis.

Seal Beach Tennis Center: 3900 Lampson Ave, Seal Beach, CA – Nine pickleball courts available by reservation only. Drop-in fees apply for non members.

There are also pickleball courts in Leisure World.

Stanton

There are no public pickleball courts currently in Stanton.

Tustin

Tustin Hills Racquet Club: 11782 Simon Ranch Road, North Tustin, CA 92705 – A private club with 12 lighted pickleball courts.

Tustin Pickleball/A G Currie Middle School: 1302 Service Road, Tustin, CA 92780 – Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. – 11 a.m. all levels are welcome for drop-in, open play. Monthly memberships are available or anyone can show up and pay a daily drop-in fee. Courts are designated by skill level from beginner to advance. Just place your paddle on the court that fits your skill level and wait your turn. As expected the courts gets busier later in the morning so get there early.

Veterans Sports Park at Tustin Legacy: 1645 Valencia Ave., Tustin, CA – There are 8 pickleball courts open to the public. Rates apply. Pickleball court reservations are available and there are also instructors available.

Villa Park

There are no public pickleball courts currently in Villa Park. Cerro Villa Middle School has painted picked ball lines but no nets provided.

Westminster

There are no public pickleball courts currently in Westminster.

Yorba Linda

Box Canyon Park (23400 Foxtail Drive, Yorba Linda, CA 92886): Pickleball overlay lines and portable net systems are available for use on the basketball courts.

Brush Canyon Park (28282 Brush Canyon Drive, Yorba Linda, CA 92887): Pickleball overlay lines and portable net systems are available for use on the basketball courts.

Tommy Lasorda Jr. Field House: Tommy Lasorda fieldhouse has had city organized pickleball play on the basketball courts.

Rooftop Pickleball Experiences

For a unique experience try the Kimpton La Peer’s rooftop pickleball court in West Hollywood. This unique venue boasts a rooftop pickleball court, cocktails, city views, and an unforgettable atmosphere. On weekends, it transforms into Disco Court, creating an experience, complete with DJs and handmade cocktails.

Where to Buy Pickleball Equipment & Gear

With the growing popularity of pickleball finding new and used equipment is now easier than ever. Local sporting goods stores such as Big 5 and Dick’s Sporting Goods stock equipment. Many tennis stores, pro shops and clubs throughout Orange County now sell Pickleball equipment including Courtside Superstores in Irvine. Even big store retailers such as Target and Walmart now have pickleball gear, both online and in-store. Amazon, as with everything, is always an option as well. If you’re bargain hunting consider Craigslist or a used sporting goods store such as Play it Again Sports in Huntington Beach and Fullerton or OC Sports Equipment in Orange.
