Great Park Ice

Great Park Ice is a sprawling sports and entertainment complex located in Irvine, California featuring a 2,500 seat rink called FivePoint Arena, plus three NHL-regulation rinks and one Olympic-sized rink that serves as a training location for the United States Olympics hopefuls.

Great Park Ice is the designated practice facility of the Anaheim Ducks, and features a team store, an arcade, pro shop, and dining. This facility has more than just rink ice–there is a pub, an amphitheater, plus a variety of classrooms in addition to the plentiful outdoor areas.

Great Park Ice is located in a sports-centric part of California; it is surrounded by Orange County Great Park which also features a variety of sports recreation options.

A Very Brief History Of Great Park Ice

In 2017, there was a groundbreaking ceremony for Great Park Ice, and two years later the grand opening of the facility introduced visitors to a stunning 280,000 square foot, $100 million facility housing the Anaheim Ducks, local hockey teams, classes, recreational skating, and much more.

It features not one, but THREE NHL regulation-size hockey rinks, plus the Olympic-sized facility and the entire property is a LEED-certified energy-efficient design.

What To Do At Great Park Ice

This facility is home to FivePoint Arena, which hosts hockey and skating events year-round. If you are looking for college or professional hockey, you may have found your forever home at Great Park Ice. But pro-level sports is just the start, there are community teams and local skating groups that also use Great Park Ice.

Community Hockey And Skating

There are “stick times” for hockey practice broken up into children and adult options, plus open skate events that don’t require hockey gear. There are youth hockey leagues and options for adults, too. You can play hockey or come to see it at levels from community teams all the way to professional and even Olympic-grade athletes.

Between The Rinks Restaurant And Bar

You can also have a meal at Between The Rinks Restaurant and Bar, but only after Wednesdays–it’s typically closed in the earliest days of the week, but Thursday through Sunday you will have plenty of options. What IS open seven days a week? The café, which closes at 8PM during peak times and earlier on Sundays.

Sled Hockey And Curling

While many will come for ice skating and hockey, another group of ice-sport enthusiasts will also be tempted to pay a visit–if you are a fan of sled hockey, Great Park Ice has hosted NHL Sled Hockey events such as the 2022 Sled Hockey Classic.

There are also curling events hosted each year–check the current Great Park Ice schedule to learn when curling may be happening next.

Another option you have at Great Park Ice? Fitness. A fitness facility called ProCode has its home at Great Park Ice, with Olympic-style weights, pro power racks, even a turf area. There are also “assault treadmills” and specialized weight benches.

You’ll also find a pro shop at Great Park Ice–Ultimate Skate and Hockey. If you are interested in skating but don’t know where to start with the gear, a visit to Ultimate will give you some food for thought if you don’t purchase same-day.
