The popular Surf City Marathon offers a variety of distances for runners of all skill levels including a full and half marathon, 5K, and the new Cowabunga Beach Challenge. Racers will enjoy the view on the oceanfront course. The event includes surfboard medals for all participants, free shirts, free beer at Sunday’s Sand Bar, live entertainment, and free shuttle service. The 2018 race brought 17,000 participants to Huntington Beach for this annual event.

Celebrate Valentines Day by showing your trail love at this 5K, 10K, and 1-mile Kid’s Fun Run. The fun run is open to kids ages 4 – 12 and will begin between 9:45 and 10:00 a.m. The 5K and 10K races will take place on the back-country trails of Irvine Regional Park with a few hills and technical areas on the course. The 5K race is a great option for first time trail racers. Awards will be given to the top three overall winners in the 5K and 10K races. Participants will receive custom race medals (the kids get them too!), a t-shirt, and post-race refreshments.

Join the race at Grace OC. Racers will run the course route from Grace to Yorba Regional Park and Santa Ana Trail and return to the finish line at Grace OC. A pancake breakfast is included with registration and will take place after the race. Proceeds from the Hearts & Heroes 5K will benefit local foster children and funds will be used to host birthday parties for these children who are with a local Orange County children’s home. Many of these kids have never had a birthday party of their own, and this is a great opportunity to give them a joyful experience.

The Aliso & Wood Canyons race will take place in the Aliso & Wood Canyons Wilderness Park, located across Alicia Parkway from the Laguna Niguel Regional Park race parking area. Participants will receive a custom race medal, tech shirt, race photos, and post-race snacks. The 5K course is a fast out and back along the Aliso Creek Trail to Wood Canyon. The 17K course offers some challenging climbs with technical terrain, and several long flat stretches. Both courses are nearly entirely on trails except for a brief paved road crossing.

The annual Laguna Hills Memorial Day races are perfect for participants of all experience levels, with a variety of lengths and difficulty levels, plus a half mile kids race and a 50-yard Diaper Dash. The Memorial Day races benefit two programs. The first is the Darkhorse Battalion. According to the website, “The City of Laguna Hills adopted the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, of the 1st Marine Division.” The infantry is based in Camp Pendelton and the city plans to donate $3 per race participant. Additionally, the city encourages viewers and participants to bring non-perishable and canned goods to support the food drive that benefits seniors, low-income families, and others in need. The 2019 Race marks the beginning of the Spirit of Valor Medal series. The series is dedicated to “the US Coast Guard, Women Veterans, First Responders, POW/MIA, and Purple Heart recipients.” Every year from 2019 through 2023 finisher medals will be inspired by the year’s theme.Participants who collect all five series finisher medals will be awarded the Grand Spirit of Valor Legacy Medal.

The Haunted Hills Whiting Ranch race sponsored by Rock It Racing takes runners through the Trabuo Canyon trails. Whiting Ranch is a popular hiking and mountain biking destination and is home to Red Rock Canyon, Orange County’s own geological masterpiece. Dogs are not allowed in the park and strollers are not allowed on the course. The Haunted Hills race is paper cupless, so wear a hydration pack to fill up at the start and finish lines, and at aid stations along the race course.

Guests of all ages and abilities are invited to participate in the Tustin Public Schools Foundation’s annual 2K, 5K and 10K run/walk, half marathon, or 5K, 15K and 50K bike tours.
Top finishers of the 5k, 10k and half marathon in each age division receive an official Dino Dash trophy. Second and third-place finishers will receive a medal. All half-marathon finishers will receive the Jurassic size medal.
The Dino Dash also features a free family expo with interactive activities, school fundraising booths, local exhibitors and a food court served up by local OC restaurants.
Racers unable to make it to the event may participate and earn legacy status through the Virtual Dino Dash half marathon, which can be completed at the participants’ convenience on the course of their choosing.

Participants can choose to race in the 5k, 10k, 15k, or half marathon. The small event usually hosts approximately 100 to 150 participants. Drinking fountains and restrooms are available along the beach path and an aid station is set up at 4.36 miles. The 5K is one out and back loop, 10K is two out and back loops, 15K is three loops. Drinks and snacks will be available at the aid stations.

The Elves On Trails race by Rock It Racing takes place on December 2nd at Caspers Wilderness Park, a fun and picturesque location for trail runners. In addition to the 5K and half marathon, there will also be an unscored 12K. All race participants will receive a custom race medal, tech shirt, race photos, and post-race snacks. Awards and prizes will be given to the top three overall men and women finishers in the 5K and half marathon events. There will also be age division awards in the 5K and half marathon in the categories 9 and under, 10-19, 20-29. 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.There are no paper cups at this race and all participants must carry their own water bottle. Caspers is a nature trail in a wilderness setting with hilly and uneven terrain and approximately 1200 feet of elevation gain in the half marathon. This race is not recommended for first time trail runners or first time half marathon runners.

The Santa Clause for a Cause event is a jolly race hosted by Caren Ware Events. Racers can come in Santa suits or Ugly Sweaters. Proceeds from this event will go towards giving gifts to people in need. Participants at the event will enjoy hot chocolate, Christmas carolers, and cookies. All participants will get to keep a Santa suit or a custom race t-shirt that they can wear during the event. Racers who wear ugly sweaters will be entered to win one of five Ugliest Sweater awards. The Run In the New Year event features a 5K, 10K, and half marathon. The race will take place at Bolsa Chica State Beach on a flat, paved bike trail just steps from the ocean.
