Laguna Niguel Regional Park is a 227-acre park with a large (and popular) fishing lake, picnic areas, an amphitheater for various youth and community events, multiple recreational courts and a jogging trail. There are 2,000 trees in Laguna Niguel Regional Park, and Sulfur Creek runs through the park.
The county received 109 acres of land in a donation from the Laguna Niguel Corporation, and purchased 45 additional acres from the County and Flood Control District. This purchase included the lake and the dam. Laguna Niguel Regional Park opened to the public in 1973.

What’s At Laguna Niguel Regional Park
Trails
There is a 2-mile multi use trail within the park. It is a moderately rated trail that is mostly paved. It is great for hiking, running, and bicycle riding. The path is also open to horseback riding. Cross over from the shoreline to the island in the lake and take a stroll around the unpaved trail or access remote picnic shelters. There is also a par course along the park’s two-mile jogging trail.
Fishing
Fishing is allowed with a fishing license for anyone 16 or over in the 44-acre lake. The lake is regularly stocked with catfish and bass. In the winter months it is stocked with only trout. Fishing is only allowed during park hours. You may not fish from bridges or dams within the park. There are fishing access piers around the lake and plenty of shore fishing spots.
A Fish cleaning station is provided near the lake, and cutting or cleaning fish on benches or picnic tables is not allowed. Recycling tubes are also provided for used fishing line.
Wading, swimming, and personal watercraft are not allowed in the lake.

Sports & Play Areas
Inside of the park are multiple open turf areas to enjoy. These areas contain shelters for picnics, and horseshoe pits. In addition there are two sand volleyball courts, four lighted pickleball courts, and four lighted tennis courts.
There are two tot lots – one near the tennis courts, and one located near the park entrance and Sulfur Creek, near shelters five and six. Both play areas are located near restrooms.
Remote Gliders
Kite Hill is a popular place for remote control glider enthusiasts. This 20-acre section of the park has ideal conditions for those hoping to launch remote controlled aircrafts and features a small scale runway. There is a restroom and picnic area here as well. Kite Hill also features a scenic overlook. A paved access way to Kite Hill is located along Alicia Parkway and entry here is free.
Picnic Areas
There are 12 picnic shelters in Laguna Niguel Regional Park plus a number of open picnic tables. The picnic shelters include sinks, tables, barbecue stoves, and electrical outlets. Picnic shelters can be reserved through the park office. The shelters closest to the lake are 10, 11, and 12. Shelters at Laguna Niguel book quickly, so be sure to make your reservations early.

Laguna Niguel Regional Park Events
Laguna Niguel Regional Park hosts several events. OC Parks features regular summer events including Sunset Cinemas at different regional park locations throughout the park system. Laguna Niguel generally hosts two showings during the summer.
